Last weekend we finally left the big city and explored village life in Bhutan. Audrey loved all the sights, sounds and feel of the rice paddy- so much that she fell right into one and got soaked through!
It was a beautiful sunny day so Audrey dried fast. We hiked up to the temple of Lama Drukpa Kunley, the Devine Madman, one of Bhutan's favorite saints, known for his wild antics (crazy wisdom).
At the alter, there are dice made of bone and the lamas will accept an offering and let you make a wish. If you roll one of the lucky numbers ( 9, 11 or 13) your wish can come true. Audrey rolled a 9 on her first try and then reveled her wish- to swim in the rice paddy again!
This is Audrey visiting the Dzong (fortress) of Punakha- traditional dress required. It was a wonderful weekend (see next blog for more).
