Happy Birthday Olivia and Maya

With our journey to Bhutan complete we took some time off to relax and celebrate some birthdays. It was challenging to find just the right place to be, as Olivia had requested a wild jungle adventure and Maya's tastes were for a bit of luxury.  After a quick breeze through Thailand (see future blogs for all the ridiculous details) we made our way to Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo) and the Tanjung Puting National Park. We rented a klotok (houseboat) and made our way deep into the jungle rainforest for a chance to see wild and rehabilitated orangutans.

A rehabilitated female and her wild born baby- we really were this close!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Along the way, we celebrated Olivia's 9th birthday Indonesian style!

The boat's crew fashioned hats and decorations from river palms to add to the festivities.

Then we packed our filthy gear (and bodies) onto a quick flight to Java where we checked into a fancy hotel (swimming pool, room service, spa...) and celebrated Maya's 11th birthday in style. A sushi dinner, chocolate cake in bed and new clothes were the highlights.

Somehow we managed to give each of the girl's just what they wished for on their special days.  They have all grown so much in the few months we have been on this journey. Hopefully they will remember their Indonesian birthdays and so much more.
